The Featherweight Ebury Debut

Anya Hindmarch's Spring Summer 2014 Collection features one of the prettiest bag I've ever seen – and one which I am really coveting as of now! The Featherweight Ebury is one of the key families of bags in Anya Hindmarch's ‘Out of this World’ collection.

This collection, in the most literal sense, was inspired by things that are out of this world: Space, planets, mineral formations and weightlessness. The colors used for this season are an array of color palettes that includes white, pale blue, clementine, mustard, grey and London blue with pops of orange, yellow and burgundy – the colour palette for SS14.

These gorgeous Featherweight Ebury bags in Natural & Clementine Python are my favorites! They look so chic and simple, and I love how the colors pop in the Natural Python version. Much love for the one with yellow insides!

Of course, they also have much muted designs, using colors such as white, or even a pop of orange.

I think this combination of taupe and yellow works perfectly, and it pairs up with the Georgiana clutch very well. The clutch works as a removable pocket by day while the bag acts as a lightweight shell. Then utilize the clutch for night time events or parties! Such functional and yet simple design that helps you organize you bag to your liking. You see those tassels attached to the bags? You can buy those separately and make your bag more personal by adding a tassel from their collection.

But what makes the Featherweight Ebury bag tick? What is it made of?

The craftmanship encompasses the use of Madras goatskin, simply because it has a more luxurious finish. In the second photo, you can see a metal frame (or what is basically a knife), used to look for the best and perfect parts of the skin, and is then pressed and cut. Once the panels have been cut, they're bonded with a bold P.U. backing, like the yellow piece in the third picture. By pressing the two materials together at 105°C, they're fused for a modern, clean finish. Then comes the stitching stage, where the seams are thinned out before stitching so that it doesn't add any unnecessary weight to the bag (featherweight, get it now?).

At the last stage, the exposed edges are hand-painted and buffed for a smooth fine finish. And there you have, the birth of the Featherweight Ebury bag! Available in stores near you. :)
