KLGCC Makes Poolside BBQ Enticingly Hot

Friday, April 03, 2015

Every Friday, scream TGIF because it is the day to indulge in a barbecue feast by the Kuala Lumpur Golf & Country Club's (KLGCC) swimming pool. Eat as much as you like, have some wine or coconut water, and jump into the pool to cool off if you like.

That, sounds like an amazing party.

And it was, indeed. Last Friday, we partied to good food, fun company and hot sounds from DJ Patricia K's turntable. I didn't dive into the pool, but I noticed some enthusiastic guests who dived in with no reservations. KLGCC has somewhat transitioned itself from being just a 'golf course'; it is also a place for friends to hang out and have a good time, no golfing skills required.

I arrived early to grab some food shots before it became too dark (and then all you'll have are food shots that are shrouded in yellow light, UGH) and you will drool at the vast variety that are available for you to feast on. Please, feast your eyes on these:

I love the salad bar! They have very unconventional salads such as the raw broccoli and cauliflower salad with lemon cilantro dressing. It's fresh and so wholesome, and I also love the fresh tomato salad with basil and balsamic! It's nothing like other buffet outlets have ever served, as these are beautifully curated to delight both the health conscious and even those who are not so. There are soups as well to go with fresh baked bread, which I did not have enough stomach space for, unfortunately.

The sweet section is even more of a delight – an array of french pastries and local malay kuihs to cater to everyone. But I personally like the créme caramel (which was gorgeous) and the chocolate mousse cake. They ever have charcoal grilled desserts like the one I'm raving about below – grilled bananas, yum! Asides, I also tried the grilled apple and almond caramel pie – which I had with a huge dollop of vanilla ice-cream.

This is actually dessert on the grill! Pineapples and bananas being grilled to perfection, and served with a nice dollop of vanilla ice-cream over them. I couldn't stop having my dessert!

Grilled seafood and meat cuts have me going crazy. Please expect none of those filler foods like fried rice or noodles – but instead indulge in REAL food that are cooked to utmost perfection. I absolutely revelled in the charcoal smoked salmon with dill, paired with cucumber yogurt sauce. The other fish offered was the snapper, which my friends tried and loved!

As for the meat cuts, nothing beats the spit roasted Australian whole lamb, which I gleefully covered in mint sauce before devouring. I also liked the herb and garlic marinated Australian beef striploin seen below – the cut was excellent and very, very succulent. I'm a carnivore at heart, and said a silent thank you to the cow and lamb who had given up their lives to be a proud meal for the palate. It was an honor to have tasted such well-cooked cuts.

Poultry done right, in both local and western style flavorings – and served alongside delectable chicken and beef satay.

Have I gotten you hungry yet?

I absolutely enjoyed the meal, but wished that the weather wasn't so humid. We were all sweating buckets and I wouldn't have minded a nice dip into the pool, except that I wasn't prepared for it. I was mostly also just thankful that it didn't rain, cause that would've been a shame.

Just as I was having my delightfully delicious dessert, the band started and they began playing a lot of great tunes – from The Calling to Coldplay and even Creed – we were all ecstatic after such a good meal. In between, the host and DJ Patricia K spun us some beats on her turntable. I had also some good company of two very nice ladies from Par Golf magazine. Meet a few blogger friends as well.

I was pleasantly surprised by this passion fruit cocktail which had a chilli padi and chilli flakes in it. It was sweet, but went down with a lingering spiciness. I haven't had something this special in so long!

If you're looking for a good Friday out with some friends, drop on by to the swimming pool in KLGCC. For a flat rate of RM75 nett per adult (members get to enjoy at RM60 nett), you get to enjoy all the luscious fare I tasted above, and a dip into the pool of course! DJ Patricia K may not be there though, but you'll definitely get some good vibes from the resident bands and musical talents. Children above 6 years can dine for RM37.50 nett per pax (members' children get to dine at RM30 nett), while those 6 years and under dine for free!
