Nelissa Hilman's Shoes Turned Into Art

Friday, February 27, 2015

If you were one of the lucky ones who won yourselves a pair of Nelissa Hilman shoes in the special CNY #MichelleLimforNH giveaway, congratulations!

In this post, you will see the 'behind the scenes' process for this collaborative. Everything, as I believe, starts from pen and paper. Also, if you haven't already, go read the short interview feature on Nelissa's blog where I talk a bit about some other artsy stuff (and sound like a complete crazy-cat-lady.)

Once I have completed the painting, I finish off with the outlining, using a 0.5 point Micron pen, and proceed to scan the images for digital post processing.

As you will see below here, the first set of images are the unedited, freshly scanned images. I used Photoshop to clean up the unnecessary lines and clean up the colors and edges a little. The most important part was adding in the leather-texture onto the La Dolce Vita and Drew shoes. For the Duma shoes (red), I drew the unique leather pattern myself as they are much larger and easier to draw.

The results led to these beautiful shoes, completed and given life. These are also the shoes I used to create the sheep for the giveaway contest. I kept some of the pencil lines intact for a nice, raw touch.

Out of the lot, the La Dolce Vita is my favorite, and I received one in Bianco – a combination of white leather and a metallic bronze leather tip. Probably one of the more good-looking pair I've ever owned. If you're interested in getting a pair, drop by Nelissa Hilman for more choices!
